Virtual Book Clubs
Each Page by Page Learning virtual book club is a joyful reading community of 3 to 6 children and an experienced teacher who gather on Zoom. The club engages in deep, enriching conversation as children share their thoughts, discoveries, questions, and joys sparked by the literature they read. Most clubs meet for five sessions.
Our clubs read engaging books, chosen by level and interest. These titles include sophisticated picture books as well as chapter books that explore many topics and themes. Some clubs tackle one text; others work with more than one text connected by topic, author, or theme. Clubs offer a balance of teacher read aloud and independent reading assignments each week.
Curriculum goals include:
Nurturing and expanding reading identity
Examining literary elements (plot, character development, author’s purpose, message and theme)
Practicing key comprehension strategies (making connections and inferences, asking questions, and monitoring understanding)
Navigating the features of a variety of genres
Exploring techniques that authors and illustrators use to enhance meaning while seeking inspiration for our own artwork and writing
Each week, teacher support includes direct instruction, a slide show to structure the session and visuals to support learning, facilitation of conversation, and modeling and coaching on challenging skills. Readers are provided with background knowledge and discussion guides to scaffold independent reading assignments and discussions.
Reading experiences may be extended with drawing, writing, song, crafts, and other creative responses.
We have many tried and true club curricula, or a new club curriculum may be customized to a group.
